A major search by the emergency services was launched yeserday (Saturday) morning for two female canoeists who had overturned and had been in the water for around three hours. Tobermory lifeboat, the RAF SAR helicopter and the coastguard were involved. The MV Clansman spotted the wopmen, who were subsequently picked up in Salen Bay by the dive boat Peregrin, which had also been involved in the search. They were taken to Dunaros Hospital on Mull suffering from hypothermia.
It is reported that the canoeists were capsized by the wake of a fast speedboat.

Strikes me as a bit unlucky that no passing vessel saw them earlier, & that a helicopter with thermal imaging camera couldn't fly almost straight to them. Also with three hours in the water I'd have thought they could have swum the canoes to the shore. Given they were in Salen Bay it sounds as though perhaps they almost had.
