Outer Hebrides reccomendations
Cast off next week, and was wondering if anyone would like to recommend some favourites in the Outer Hebrides. We managed to visit Barra and St Kilda last june, but wondered if anyone had any particular favourites in the area. Would be interested in good seafood dining

Strongly recomment the Tigh Dearg Hotel at Lochmaddy. Full report here.
We thought it was excellent - also has laundry facilities, shower, steam room, for grotty yotties.
Probably best to check for the best times for laundry - their own stuff obviously has priority:

Thanks Shard, that sounds like a good stopover.
We carry a few bird, plant and animal books on board, for those "whats that?" moments . Anyone have any recommendations for a book that does it all for the west of scotland?

Re: Outer Hebrides reccomendations
Hamish Haswell-Smith's "Scottish Islands" comes pretty close to being the perfect book for the area. You should be able to get it from Nick's Amazon link.
Of historical interest there's Martin Martin's "A Description of the Western Isles of Scotland (1703)", if you can lay your hands on a copy. Our edition was published in the 70s or 80s by James Thin in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, his bookselling and and publishing business diappeared a few years ago after his death. There's an online version here.

Bit late on parade with this and by now the trip is probably over.
We visited a really good little restaurant in Stair at the entrance to Loch Dunvegan.
