Is it me?

Post by Mark »

I asked a bloke on TOP to give details of two MAIB reports he's read about two baots that were sunk by seastate.

He's just replied with a link to the entire MAIB site but no specifics that would help find the reports.

Am I right to find this infuriating? If he doesn't know any details about the boats he could just say. Does he really think I won't be able to find the MAIB site? Does he really think what he posted would be in any way helpful?

I don't know why but it's driven me crazy.

It's a bit like walking up to a thirsty person in a desert and saying 'I know where there's water' and when they ask where saying 'in this desert'.

Maybe I'm over reacting, and I hope my annoyance doesn't show in my response to him, but it's really narked me.

Anyway, I'm off to have a pre bedtime walk on the beach to try to get some much needed perspective on what should be a trivial non-issue.

Maybe he's thinking of "Creightons Naturally". Biscay at about the right time give or take. I had a friend on it and it wasn't really overwhelmed, nor was it a Beneteau. Also nobody died so I can't imagine there would have been an MAIB report.

Really frustrating. :-(

.
I think he may be referring to the 'Ocean Madam' incident. She was a Beneteau 390 that capsized and failed to right with the loss of one life. The incident occurred during a crossing of Biscay on 8 October 1997

MAIB Report

Conclusion no. 3.1.3 was:
"The Oceanis 390 is a safe, comfortable, yacht suitable for pleasure sailing and charter work. Her lightweight design, however, together with her stability characteristics, introduce a high risk factor in the type of extreme sea-state conditions encountered by Ocean Madam. The yacht is not designed for crossing oceans in bad weather."

You're a star.

Should have known a Blue Momenter would have come through. I must have been mad to ask on TOP in the first place/

And another thing...

The thread on the guy who gashed his leg in Studland Bay on TOP...

Needless to say he's been a t**t, but am I unreasonable posting some good reports of him as a tradesman? Is "Fireball's" response accurate, reasonable or justified?
