Portavadie Marina up for Sustainable Design award

Post by Nick »

.
There is an interesting interview with the architects for the Portavadie Marina project HERE and an opportunity to vote (closes Friday) for the Argyll Sustainable Design awards.

now voted ( not for balamory :o ).
i wasn`t aware of " for argyll " prior to this, nor was i aware that the maersk raft in loch striven was a source of controversy. i thought its not really obtrusive as you pass by but i haven`t been into the loch for a closer look.
i can just remember tying up alongside a mothballed merchantman in loch ewe in the 60`s but it would have been nowhere near the size of the maersks.

Two more Maersks have now been tied up in Greenock Great Harbour.

I saw during the summer that the locals in Loch Striven had used a tractor and grass cutter to create a huge message in the grass on the hillside asking the ships to 'clear off' or some such thing.

I didn't realise the magnitude of the Loch Striven problem, and am worried that this may be just the start of a lucrative ploy for Clydeport.
It reminds me of the desecration created by rig yards and power stations on the banks of the Clyde over the years, that can never be repaired in our lifetime. (ie Hunterston)
At least the hulks can be moved away, but the quality of life for the locals must be very poor at the moment
I wonder if they get a rates rebate?
