PDA, maxsea and AIS

Can pick up a cheap Dell Axim 51. Anyone use one with MAxsea and AIS receiver and software? Power consumption and physical footprint is much smaller than a laptop and would seem a nice alternative .. if viable?

jim, i bought one fer ra missus ages ago (forgot we had it) and dug it out. it runs under windows mobile and i d/l shipplotter pocket pc which it rejected as not compatible. it wouldn't take the full version either. i doubt, therefore, that it'll run maxsea either. I've asked SP if they've a special version compiled for this version of windows so will wait and see ...

there must be some way of getting the axim to do something useful ... ra missus complained that the battery (standard 1100mah) didn't keep it going long enough ... i've jist googled the axim and the first review of it complains aboot crap battery life so, she's right .. harrumph ..

I've loaded memory map and that works OK with a bluetooth GPS. Trying to find a MAxsea PDA version to test

No, but I'm glad you are on the line - do you think that if I should link up a dongle through the Com3 port I ought to be able to overlay sea temperature readings from the heads outlet via maxsea and thus verify my position based on a calculation of depth - offset, naturally to account for the position of the sender?
I am currently working on a project to calculate tidal flow through the attachment of an AIS sensor to a used food. At the moment this is proving quite difficult because of the mascerator - with which I know you are most familiar.
Any ideas or advice?

I'm sorry but this simply won't work. You are clearly out of your comfort zone and should consider taking professional advice - section 26 springs to mind.
