I was using the small genoa rather than the jib for the first time in ages - bit perverse when I was single handed - but wind was light and consistent.
I tacked across to them, found out that they would appreciate a tow, tacked and rigged the line, tacked again and then again into a 'hove to' whilst I passed the line. I thought that the young lad wasn't going to understand / act on my instruction to wrap the line around the post before the line went tight.
The heavy dinghy slowed the tack but then turning round and chatting didn't help either!

I did something similar last year in Aquaplane, but it was only an inflatable so it's wasn't much to tow.
The chap had borrowed the dingy along with a caravan at Fallbarrow just north of Bowness, I think it was just not being used to the motor but he couldn't start it. He was holding on to my mates boat just near our mooring so we went back to see what they were up to.
I didn't fancy towing an inflatable with a family of four in so we hove to, tied up the dingy and got them all aboard for the sail down the lake.
I got a warm fluffy feeling from "rescuing" them, and a bigger one from handling Aquaplane nicely, but it was probably lost on them 'cos they didn't know what they were doing.
About 5 mins after casting them adrift 50 yds from their destination to row back they zoomed up saying they had got the motor going, which was fairly obvious to be honest. They never turned up at "the hole in the wall" to buy drinks as promised though.
