The engine's a taxi engine? rare for them to need reverse ...

erm ... when reverse is selected, the cone is pushed forward and the helical shaft locks the male to the female cone when the engine is running. quite likely the auld goat's lever on the box just requires pushing forward very slightly; but there is no independent adjustment so that if you give reverse more movement, you reduce the forward movement. needs to be delicately done ...

The engine is a 48hp Leyland engine.
It was marinised and began life - prior to meeting up with washing machine man - in a Sherpa.
Not a taxi.

Thank you so much.

Anyway - its all working fine now without any adjustments having been made - I just stop the engine with it all in reverse which works a treat. Whilst there may be a temporary - nay momentary interuption to the forward velocity - ma fine shup quickly remembers she is an Ocean Greyhound and quietly, without fuss or bother, glides on.
