Netbooks:ASUS eee is it a good laptop?Is a 12v system ok?

I went to carrfour today. There they have laptops & netbooks while the laptops are fixed the netbooks can be picked up.I looked at the battery voltage the ASUS eee range 900 901 have 12v batterys!

The Acer one had 18v the medion & packard bell 20v other laptops vary between 16v to 18v WHY?Are 16v,18v,&20v batterys more efficent?longer lasting?

Price wise my 16v IBM battery cost 48€ the 12v asus 44€.For the boat a 12v laptops perfect!Just plug it in to the boats supply or via an inexpensive 7amp stablised power supply

Up to now ive been using an inverter or multi power 12v adapter, both use more power than needed to charge. And as now when my power blocks are out of service its very restrictive.I need my laptop and it needs power.

The asus is the smallest (apart from the packard bell which is over 100€ more with a very small screen and hopless mouse)the key boards ok after a time.Im very impressed if i had 270€ id buy one!I think?

Is anyone using one?Dose anyone have the Linux version? Is Linux an option? Can files on a hard disc transfered from win, be read by linux??

So far all the netbooks on display have win xp, Linux is order only. What about a solid state asus??16giga HDD & win xp! it should be far less powere hungry than the 160giga HDD option?

Is there any reason why an 18v powered netbook might be better than one powered by 12v?????

Happy new year!I bought one that is i got one also a 900 with Linux the bios needs an update to double battery life. All less than easy with Linux

12v is great.Just now its one day old a firefox update crashed the system now i either have to let asus collect it and reinstall or wait until im back aboard(on the 4th) where i have my dvd external drive.

I never realised how silly it is for them to sell a netbook with a recovery dvd & not a USB or SD card!!

Hope you have a good year.Lots of things have been happening one of them is no internet in France! At least west of the Rhone

The girls have just gone out theres a grand cru from Medoc waiting

The asus is the ideal system no moving parts easy to stowe the screen large enough to read even my port plans!

Happy new year ill be in Spain briefly soon hope to find 3G there at an afordable price???

Hi Trouville,
got an asus eeepc on ebay 900 model on xp with 2gb ram and bckupdisks. just ordered a 12v cigar lighter power supply ebay again about euros 12. delivered Dublin.Hope it incorporates some voltage control inside ,but maybe its just a bit of wire!!!Perhaps the linux version would be better , like start up quicker thanxp windze.so far all dancing all singing, grumpy OS compared to OSX, but some chart PROGRAMS and gribs and a fax program I use work well on the ASUS eeepc .GPS NAVx is shaping up to be the eventual system, but on a mac mini. Its a trade off Asus or pc laptop equals morri s minor,Apple OSX feels like quattro A8 (only been a passenger!)This is typed two fingered mostly as asus keyboard is compromise for size. All in all it is brilliant esp as there is flash drive, instead of spinning discs. :)
why is a boat full of holes?
