Burns night celebration in odd places

Post by ParaHandy »

As you all know, the 25 January is the 250th anniversary of the wee man's birth? From my current position, the island of Curriaco is closeby; I expect to sail there on or about the 25th and it has the privilege of us yins haeing colonised it. The island is not much bigger than a yottie navigation mark in the Solent.

Not having the time to pre-order a MacSween's, the problem is whit tae replace it with? Efter some discussion wi' hersel, I jaloused that the Bard would, should he have been here, have selected the most plentiful food available, a lobster.

A practice was quickly arranged and I offer these pics of the trial run ...

The wee beasties prior tae going in the pot

and the same wee beasties ready fer scoffing

By the same ineluctable reasoning, a shot of rum would seem appropriate tae toast the wee beasties? A Mohito wid be jist sublime.

Jings .. its a tough decision but ahm certain you'll all agree that its the richt yin?

OK, who's going to be first with the toast to the lobster?

Fair fa' yer honest sonsie face . . . .

Although "sonsie" is no a term that I would immediately associate wi' this beastie.

Rabbie would have appreciated it though, I'm sure.

Well, it can be revealed that Full Circle Towers will be ringing with the mangled attempts of the English to honour Rabbie Burns next Saturday night.
Unlike one Parahandy, the event detail has been preplanned to the last detail. lets see if we can make it more special this year, as its the 250th.

We are seating 23 to dinner this year, so the MacSweens truck is making the bulk delivery shortly.

So,
Cullen Skink to start,
Haggis Neeps & Tatties (naturally)
Tipsy Laird cake
Orcadian Cheeses and Oaties to finish.

We are using Bailey Nicol Jarvie as the Gravy this year, with a fine spread of different malts on the table. Need to finish the dregs of a few bottles to make way for the replenishment when we visit Scotland later in the year.

Quick everyone, hide, Headmaster is in a bit of a mood today. Crikey, he even thinks he has tropical armoured haggis for dinner on Saturday.

erm ... and tomorrow!

Fer your information, the wee beasties around hereabouts huv'nae ony claws so tae get every bit o' grub outta 'em is simple compared with cracking open yon Scottish beasties. I'm sure the Bard would have appreciated this. Imagine if a haggis had little haggae protuberances eh?!
