Anchor Light v Alcohol

Post by ash »

My tip is rig your anchor light before you start drinking.

I used to have one of those solar cell/ rechargable battery/ LED garden light jobs with my hanging strings simply knotted at the ends and jammed beween the main body and the lid.

Attempting to string it on the bungy, I dropped the wrong thing, the light bounced on the deck just the once and then over the side. I did almost recover it with the boathook, but it burst open and sank in 5 metres, still glowing.

Yes he did, I was there. The shocking thing was the language, he never swore once!

Should I get another storm lantern then I can have a light in the boat and one outside?

regulations

We have seen many boats this year using a sola garden light as an anchor light. Good news they are cheap actually NO. If you are in a collision with another yacht using one of these lights you will have no claim on your insurance or his as you will be breaking the regulations. We have an LED anchor light and have been using it all year not cheap about the cost of 30 pints but will give years of use and saftey. We always say spend money where it will save you money.
Sal & I live aboard our Colvic Watson 32 in France as we have retired from the channel Islands. I have been sailing for 55 years and Sal for 17 years.

30 pints???

.
We have had an LED anchor light for three years, a bulb that fits the standard Aquasignal socket, very effective and much less than 30 pints, more like eight or nine!
