Para's amazing stamp collection

Post by tcm »

Para very kindly sorted out the puter, all working fine. I went round to collect the bits and pieces, no problem at all.

Now back at the boat in canaries, geting stuff sorted for transat in late november. Weather v windy so partly to see what it'll be like for next few days (we want to put the sail back on) and partly to show how flaky it is, i thought it a good idea to actually show swmbo how we get a weather forecast on board.

So, i dug out the satphone which para had nicely repacked in a used envelope for me. The stamp on the envelope caught my eye - it seemed to be in an old style, with an image of a young Elizabeth 2nd. I initially thought that perhaps new stamps were being made in the old style, retro-stamps perhaps. But looking closer the stamp said "3d" on it. And looking even closer, the postmark is .... 1953!

Perhaps para has oh, loads of ancient envelopes knocking about - or perhaps he has accidentally given me a valuable item from his collection? Or is it a special present to me, a valuable post-coronation special edition?

Smart move by Para - most of the posties hate even trying to get the money out of people because the sender didn't use the right the correct stamp, or, in Para's case, re-used the stamp that delivered his demob papers at the end of his National Service.

Nae Liz the twa!

Next time you're up, have a look at Scottish pillar boxes. You'll find that those less than 60 years old have an E R insignia rather than EII R. There's a reason...
