Hi everyone,
As many of you know one of my major aims with Weatherweb.TV is to make it more than just ‘forecasts’. I want to help you learn more about the weather too and so I have introduced a new ‘Learning’ channel. The Channel is in the type right-hand of the menu box. Here you can watch brief ‘weather lesson’ videos, about 1 to 2 minutes in length dealing with a few basic weather concepts. If there is something you’d like added here, or a question you’d like answered then please let me know; remember that what might seem a silly question to you is one that hundred of people probably want to ask too!.
Also, the first forecast for the weekend is online as the 5-Day Sailing Forecast now at http://www.weatherweb.TV

I think it's a good idea, and I like the 2 items I've seen on there.
As for what I'd like to see, well here's an idea -
A lot of the posters on here sail the Clyde & west coast, but I sail on the east coast, so apart from less rainfall, what other weather changes does the land produce?
I'm assuming here that the majority of the weather is coming from the west, and the west coast guys get their weather straight from the Atlantic, but "my" weather is influenced by all the lumpy bits in between.

Really like the 'learning area' as does Mrs Windfinder who is a Geog Teacher. (I assume it will be ok for her to show the kids without a Copyright issue?)
I'd like to see some 'real-world' examples of 'If you see this in the Sky you're going to get this weather on the way' and 'which side of the cloud can I find the lift and which side is the header'.

Brill, thanks for that chaps. Yep, no problem to show in schools, it is all my own copyright, but can you let me know if she does (nice to mention to potential sponsors/advertisers). My wife, who is a teacher too said the same thing, "...the schools will love this!".
Okay, point taken about east coast. I am working one up at the moment which looks at the effect of the coast on the wind.
I'm also planning a series on airmasses and whaty weather they bring.
Posters in 'another place' have suggested a video talking about fronts etc... and what they mean/weather.
Come on chaps, keep the ideas coming.

Simon, might I suggest you contact all the sailing schools and let them know about this? You might want to think about putting a series of the Weather School videos on an affordable DVD so they can use them offline as well.
(Going through the Schools section on BlueMoment will give you a fair number to be going on with - we currently list over 80 RYA training establishments)
You know the classic diagrams in the DS / YM books - the diagram of a frontal system then the synoptic chart with the boat - what is the weather at this point etc . . . how much easier to explain with video.a video talking about fronts etc... and what they mean/weather.

Thanks Nick, yep, good idea. I am in the process of putting together a video for coatal winds (why the speeds increase and decrease), and fronts is certainly next. It's a recurring theme.
Great idea about the videos too. Will have a look in the Schools register.
Anyone reading who is a School? Would this be useful for you?

It's great Simon.
The Weather School Channel would IMO alsobenefit from some simple multiple choice questions so people can test their understanding. (Easy to do with Javascript - will talk to you about it later when we are back from our July cruise).
