WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1100 Thursday 5th June 2008
SATURDAY:
Low pressure is centred over Scandinavia and this is going to be pushing showery trough southwards through the country this weekend, High pressure remains to the west and may start to build eastwards into parts of Ireland later on Saturday afternoon. For most of us though we will be in a cool, unstable west to northwesterly flow.
There will be variable amounts of cloud around throughout the country on Saturday morning. Showers are going to be developing, and these are more likely through northern and eastern areas. Parts of Wales and southwest England staying dry.
The afternoon sees further broken cloud and scattered showers. The showers could become heavy at times just about anywhere with the risk of a rumble of thunder.
Winds will be generally W-WNW 10-12kt (F3-F4) in the south, more NW 12-15kt (F4-F5) in the north.
SUNDAY:
Little change for Sunday with the area of low pressure remaining over southern Sweden, controlling the weather throughout the British Isles. The area of higher pressure to the west is going to be building into Ireland, west Wales and western England through the day, improving conditions in these areas.
There will be variable cloud as well as some showers throughout Sunday over much of England and Scotland, as well as east Wales. A few of the showers could be heavy along eastern coasts, but further inland they should be more well scattered.
Across Ireland the day is going to be brighter with sunny spells. It should stay dry here, and this dry weather will be edging east towards western parts of England, Wales and Scotland in the afternoon.
Winds will be W 5-8kt (F2-F3) in the far south, nearer NW 5-10kt (F3) elsewhere, perhaps NW 15kt (F4-F5) along eastern coasts.
