WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1200 Friday 30th May 2008
SATURDAY:
Higher pressure tending to influence the weather across the UK and Ireland today. A mainly northerly flow affecting most parts of the country. The occluded front off the North Sea coasts of England and Scotland pushes westwards later in the day, introducing more cloud to the east.
For most it will be a bright start to the day, once any morning mist and fog patches have burned away. Note that with light winds through the Channel and Irish Sea there is the threat of some fog here.
Generally though the day should be fair with sunny spells and broken cloud, although again a few scattered torrential downpours may develop over southwest England and southern Wales. The risk of a heavy shower too in southern and western Ireland, with a very low risk of showers over the southern Highlands.
Winds will be mainly E-ESE 5-8kt (F2-F3) through the Channel, generally N 5-10kt (F2-F3) elsewhere.
SUNDAY:
The occluded front pushes westwards on Sunday the flow becoming more northeasterly and increasing. High pressure is going to be centred to the north of Scotland with low pressure over western parts of France.
For many the day is going to be cloudier than Saturday. There could be some spots of drizzle around over much of England (especially the east) and eastern Scotland.
Western parts of Wales, western Scotland and Ireland should be drier and brighter with sunny spells here.
Winds mainly NE 9-12kt (F3-F4), perhaps NE 12-16 (F4-F5) along eastern coasts at times, and through the Channel.
