Tufnol Ignorance

I was today years old when I found out that those blocks that look like they're made out of Bakelite are actually made out of Tufnol. I was familiar with the word Tufnol and I was familiar with the weird brown blocks/winches. Just never put the two together. If I ever find myself back in 1979 that's...

Who ever takes it on it will doubtless be an improvement over the psycho who was running it before... Has it changed hands in the last ten years or so. I was last there around ten years ago and the Landlord-ess seemed great me - let us use the shower in her house 'cos the one in the pub was borked....

I'm seeing Peggy Seeger perform in Fareham this weekend - the only reason I'd heard of her was this post. So thanks. (Unless it's rubbish!)

Once he'd found Coll he could begin the search for Claymore's sense of humour!

Calmac have 29 ferries so in theory he could have 29 goes at it. I'd like to think our Ferry driver would have realized his mistake before he was even half way through the fleet. Perhaps someone would even point out his mistake on one of his early attempts.

Re: Worst 2 or 3 anchorages

You get a great view of the Paps from Colonsay but not from Coll. The image I'm thinking off is in the artwork in the books. Paps on the left on the same body of land as the landing stage. Reminds me of Craighouse but there are features that rule it out. Not really important since I'm sure some sce...

Re: Worst 2 or 3 anchorages

What's the connection between Katie Morag and Arinagour? Mairi Hedderwick lived on Coll for a number of years, and a lot of the landscape, characters and situations are based on Arinagour. I'm a little red faced because I was getting Ardinamar and Arinagour mixed up. Despite that, thanks, I've been...

Re: Worst 2 or 3 anchorages

Arinagour in strong southerlies. The allure of Katie Morag for the grandchildren was greater than pilot book warnings and adherence of common sense. Wind veered west south west overnight, but waves still came in from the south, so we ended up rolling, yawing and pitching at mooring....departed very...

Re: Canna - a story of everyday anchoring folk

My one night in Canna was in a gale and we used a fisherman anchor. I'm pretty certain that cut through the Kelp and we reasoned that if it did drag it was spikey enough that it would probably catch something before we'd gone far. (We didn't test it with reverse. ) There was one other boat in there ...

Re: I find it hard to believe

Have to confess I am a rev counter on Top, but being unable to do it for real as am currently stuck in a very damp Liverpool cyber anchoring gives a small degree of pleasure. There is also the hope that some of the chuck it all over the side charterers might read some of these threads which would b...
