I was today years old when I found out that those blocks that look like they're made out of Bakelite are actually made out of Tufnol.
I was familiar with the word Tufnol and I was familiar with the weird brown blocks/winches. Just never put the two together.
If I ever find myself back in 1979 that's going to be very useful to me.
I feel BM is the appropriate place to share my shameful secret.

Re: Tufnol Ignorance
The material was called Paxolin when I first heard of it. My father worked at the Prestwick aerodrome in the repair and adaptation base during WW2 and quite a few bits of scrap found their way home for experiments in using the new material.
