Re: RYA yachtmaster theory (on-line) recommendation:
You could try navathome.com. I did one of their courses a few years ago, seemed OK.

Re: Diesel runaway
I'm also not sure about CO2, and I'm not convinced that compression lifters would stop a seriously racing engine. The stop solenoid shuts off fuel flow, that could be pushed in manually and held in place until the engine stops. I think too much thought is going into something that is extremely unlik...

Re: South and West this time
We did it widdershins about 4 years ago. On the North coast, although it's a long trip up Lough Foyle, Derry is worth a visit and you're in the city. Loads of places in Donegal Bay, lots of islands to visit - Tory, Arran, Inishmore etc. The more time you can spend on the West coast, the better.

The boxes are also often at a different scale from the main map, making the islands look smaller - Orkenys as well as Shetlands.

Re: South and west of Islay?
Had some cracking sails down the West of Jura and Islay making good times with the tide.
One time anchored in Port na Haven and the tide rushing between the islands held us stern to a bitterly cold wind.
Like anything pick the weather and work the tides, and enjoy the Atlantic swell!

Reminds me, we sailed round Shetland this year with charts of 1972 vintage. Rocks hadn't moved but the buoyage was a bit different.

In engineering terminology, RTFM is the final and last resort of any fault-finding and repair process only to be considered once all other options have been tried unsuccessfully. Usually undertaken once the faulty system has been stripped down to base components spread across the bench, some of whic...

Re: Yellow thing near Sanda- big black beast in Brodick!
Some kind of update if anyone's interested, the turbine has been sat on the quay at Campbeltown for 6 months. Not sure if it's going back in or if so when.

Re: Yellow thing near Sanda- big black beast in Brodick!
It is a tidal turbine 'prototype' and has been at that angle for well over a year. It sat on Campbeltown quay for 6 months or more before being towed around and then finding their balance calculations were a bit out. So far as I know it has yet to produce an amp, not even sure if the cable is sorted...

Re: Easter Moorings
Hello to all. I've been looking at Blue Moment for years, just decided to join. Readers of Scuttlebutt may be familiar with my recent work winding up the seahorse botherers on the South coast. There are 4 moorings at Carradale, I believe they have been left in all winter so unless the strops have be...
