Renton I think. I just dropped off / collected my masthead fitting when he was working for my in-laws, I didn't pay too much attention his home location.

Re: stainless welding - pulpit repair

This chap did a beautiful repair to my stainless mast head fitting at the beginning of the season. He's also done a huge amount of amazing stainless work for my in-laws.

Re: Anchors vs Moorings

To get back to the original question, and with no prejudice on my part whatsoever, I'm inclined to think that these kind of moorings probably would be given priority over boats anchoring closeby. Harbour Association visitor moorings might be a slightly different case, but if I was a hotel or other b...

Re: Roller reefing boom

not so sure about the Vega esp. if she's a bilge-keeler? Ouch!!!, and you're a yacht broker!! Ash No disrespect intended, Vegas are without doubt fantastic little boats. I just thought some were bilge-keelers; apparently I was wrong. Hardly a big deal as regards brokering, and certainly not the top...

Re: Roller reefing boom

I have a Pioneer 10 with a Sparlight (British) rig that still has the roller-reefing boom. It works quite well. Sail shape not too bad (better I'd say than some in-mast roller reefing I've used), and I concur with the point that if you're reefing there's plenty of wind so it matters less. The Pionee...

Re: Mobile phone advice

Looks like the OP has solved his dilemma but if you'll allow me to chuck in my 2p's worth: I live in Argyll and rely heavily on my mobile for work. I wouldn't even consider anything other than Vodafone for around here, and most people in my area agree. I was slow to get a smartphone but find it incr...

Re: hard to start outboard

To answer your questions: Yes I would say it's easy enough to put back together again but I can't remember what it's like to have not done it before! Objectively it should be a fair enough job for the less-experienced. Only warning (apart from don't do it over the water unless you're very confident!...

Re: hard to start outboard

Clyde_Wanderer is on the money re. low-speed jets. However, starting OK after having been left for 10 mins. suggests flooding, as does poor idling. If you give it full throttle and no choke will it eventually cough into life? If you pump the priming bulb, does it continue to depress slowly even when...
