Family Christmas Newsletters

I've always had an aversion to these - perhaps it's more to do with Dear Heart's friends who insist on sending them - Syrupy nonsense about how brilliantly all their offspring are doing, how their various weddings were simply wonderful, their gardens blooming, their weather on holiday exceptionally fabulous and their promotions at work sensational and of course how wealthy they are as their Pensions come to an amazing, trend-beating fruition.
Does anyone else feel the same?
I've written my alternative one this year for the first time.

Depends on the friends and family. We just received one from an old friend saying what a terrible year and they hope next year is better. I do know what you mean though but you don't do Facebook so how else would you hear about their wonderful achievements? We stopped sending Xmas cards a few years back and give whatever we would have spent on cards and post to, in the words of Smashy and Nicey "charity mate". We now do the " newsletter". It's a good way of keeping friends and family who we wouldn't normally see up to date with news. Seems better than just saying merry Xmas and a happy new year.
