Came round the Mull yesterday after a 4 AM start from Port Ellen. Lumpy at first but a good sail overall. 12.2 Kt SOG about 5 miles west of MOK lighthouse!
Anyway, decided to go inside Sanda as usual, and spotted a bright yellow (tidal turbine prototype?) in the water near the McCosh rock buoy. Didn't look quite right - with a severe list it seems.
My younger son is at Harland and Wolff in Belfast supervising a similar device being built for Orkney. West coast tow happening soon!
Came round from Lamlash to Brodick after lunch today and met Lionheart - one of the newer J class boats (2010 build) rounding up and dropped anchor 100 yards away. Just gorgeous, but enormous with it. At least the crew waved hello when we went round her aft end for a nosey on the way to the house in the dinghy :)

It is a tidal turbine 'prototype' and has been at that angle for well over a year. It sat on Campbeltown quay for 6 months or more before being towed around and then finding their balance calculations were a bit out. So far as I know it has yet to produce an amp, not even sure if the cable is sorted yet. The light worked last time I saw it at night, but it wasn't very bright.

Lionheart is just beautiful we got close enough for a great photo just off Largs on 8th of this month. She towered above us as we dipped behind her.
The top of my mast was looked like it was just above her 1st set of spreaders.

Some kind of update if anyone's interested, the turbine has been sat on the quay at Campbeltown for 6 months. Not sure if it's going back in or if so when.
