Number one son was at North Berwick today and took this sequence of pics from the harbour wall:

Hard to figure what all has gone wrong. Engine failure approaching harbour initially, presumably, since the outboard is in the water in the earlier pics. Then the jib jamming in the hoist while trying to get steerage under sail? At first sight the breeze appears light but noticing the white caps further out I guess it was actually quite fresh.

The jib sheets certainly seem to be in a hellish fankle.

Poor bloke. Was there a problem with the forestay?

What a nice little boat - hopefully just cosmetic damage.

I hope there is a handy fishing boat around if I ever get into that situation...

or a tourist boat would do in extremis.

I wonder if that's his mooring (with the dinghy) in the background?

If it was then perhaps he missed picking it up and was blown ashore. But it seems a horribly exposed place for a mooring.
