A Book of Death and Fish

By Ian Stephen
A long, wildly idiosyncratic novel being the life story of Peter Macaulay, his reflections of his life triggered as he sits down to write his will.
A fantastic picture of Stornoway and Lewis life in all its facets over several decades, conveyed obliquely through anecdotes and characters, with side trips to the Broch and elsewhere.
Ian is a professional storyteller. This is his first novel, and it has already picked up a couple of awards.

If it whetted your appetite for more about Lewis then I thoroughly recommend Peter May's Lewis trilogy:
~ The Black House
~ The Lewis Man
~ The Chessmen
Three very different Whodunnits linked by the development of a fascinating central character, suffused with a melancholy Hebridean atmosphere.

Have to confess that, having greatly enjoyed the Lewis trilogy by Peter may, I am struggling to get to grips with this book. Maybe it meanders more than I like

It does meander, but there is a consistent theme in the biographical sense.
Just finished reading Peter May's 'Runaway' - really enjoyed it, but very different from the Lewis books.
