I stumbled across this on Amazon Kindle. He started off as a deckhand post-war after the VICs had been converted to diesel. He became a skipper later and transferred to coasters after the puffers became uneconomic.
His tales don't have the polish of Monro but have their own appeal - it's like having an authentic old knockabout skipper yarning away in the bar.
