And no signs of getting any warmer in the cauld east wind. The ice bergs are still with us in the upper reaches of the Clyde.

A memorable dawn, tinged with apprehension because we had had 20+ knots most of the nght and were about to enter the biggest wind acceleration zone in the Canaries, where the wind speed - according to the pilot - often doubled. In fact it went up the arse and only 25-30 knots and we had a cracking run under genoa down the West coast of Gran Canaria to Puerto Mogan.
