Site time

Labelled as UTC, I note that the site clock and time that posts are timestamped as, are about an hour different from the UTC I use.

On a sidetrack, I noted a website recently that shows the difference between UTC and GMT. A lot of folk think they're the same, but they are not. And the difference between them is not constant either.

Whenever I am on this site the bottom right-hand side of the screen reads "All times are UTC + 1 hour ".

If you click on User Control Panel (top right of the page) and Board preferences, under Edit global settings you will see how your time display preferences can be altered. While you're there you should consider setting Pop up window on new private message: to Yes since it makes it a lot easier to spot icoming PM's.

Can you give us a link, please?

I must admit, I don't know the difference.

I can't now find the link, but here's some informative links on the difference.

http://www.diffen.com/difference/GMT_vs_UTC

http://www.timeanddate.com/time/gmt-utc-time.html

In summary: GMT is derived from astronomy, and relates to averaged (mean) astronomical time at Greenwich.
UTC is derived from an atomic clock, and pays no attention to earths rotation etc.
Both have their disadvantages and advantages, but are nearly the same. The difference rarely exceeds a second or two.
