My Rescue services contact has said that they find VHF communications with Belfast improved in certain areas in comparison with previous to Clyde. The updating of the aerials has been deemed a success. Also have been informed that Clyde coastguard had previously been " working to rule ? " regarding poor wages and conditions and this had been on the go for some time. Again I am sorry to have people lose their jobs, but life continues and we shall have to see how it goes in 2013.

I believe the people I met knew their coats were on shoogly pegs years ago, so yes - it's difficult to sit in quicksand and do nothing, however I don't ever remember being affected by a work to rule.
For me it's a shame to lose the familiar voices whose owners are now moving on to pastures new.
It's going to be an effort and somewhat alien to call Belfast instead of Clyde next season - a bit like going foreign before I've left the berth.

Does anyone know where the new boundary between Belfast and Stornoway will be? My guess would be Ardnamurchan, but I could be quite wrong.

I take it that we are on our own in the Corryvreckan . Wonder what the Scottish Independance take is on the coastguard closures as to having a foreign power overseeing our bonny coastline. Actually I have no problem with the changes other than sympathy for people losing their jobs. I fished and sailed for years in the Indian Ocean with no coastguard, no lights, or rescue services and never missed any of them, just intensive maintenance lists, planning and more care had to be taken. Very sobering when one knew that no one was going to come to your assistance.

During my wee sail out of Dunstaffnage last week (when I should have been in the pub with you reprobates) I never heard Belfast but there were the lovely soft long vowels of a lassie from Stornoway whose weather started at the MoK. Bit of a bummer if you're heading south frae Oban and want to know what the Clyde is doing, that is if you place any confidence whatsoever in the CG forecast.

And I always thought it was a Met Office forecast promulgated by the BBC & HMCG. I expect you'll all have to pay more for them once you are independent.

I done a trial call requesting a radio check tother night on my handheld from flat in Millport, Belfast replied, "weak but readable".
Not bad for a handheld.

Law hill. There are maps of all aerial sites and their associated channel/wattage available but they don't include height.
No doubt the information will be revamped and promulgated in order to promote the new image in due course.
