BLUEMOMENT

I've just been watching "The Maggie" and playing spot-the-location. Most of them I knew, but there's one that puzzles me, and that's "Loch Mora". Various online sources say it was filmed at Crinan, and some of the distant scenes do look a bit like the north side of Loch Crinan, but I'm not convinced.

As well as the old pier, which the Maggie demolishes, there is a long wharf, a large row of buildings including the supposed pub and a road down to them. In my recollection the quayside at Crinan (east of the sea lock) isn't long enough, and while I suppose false buildings could have been put up, the street looks too big to me.

Can that really be Crinan? And if so, how did they fit it in?

Looks like Crinan to me - with a stuck on pier that doesn't quite fit the real pier? In the second foatie the piles look a bit light weight and you can see it doesn't quite line up.
It is pretty shallow off the pier and they probably only found that out when they tried to take the wee ship in

I'm sure the pier was just a prop - though thee must have been enough water for the Columba to get in somewhere when she connected with the Linnet. It's the size of the street down that worries me, but perhaps it's just faulty memory on my part.

I don't even recognise the sea wall let alone the pier or the road

If I remember correctly, the pier at Crinan now has a metal grid-like extension. If you look down you can see the water below, therefore I don't think the pier shape is as it was.
