BLUEMOMENT

I've just taken advantage of a spare day to have a wee nose round Loch Striven. Things I noticed:

• No moored ships
• Lots of fish farms, many defunct. The derelict fish farm seems to be joining the rusting tractor on the list of Dominant Landscape Feature of the Western Highlands
• The May 2012 Small Craft edition chart of the loch is, at the head, a work of wild and imaginative fiction. See that nice big shelf for anchoring, just where the burn emerges? Fantasy. The bottom slopes abruptly from 10m+ to 2m- all the way along. Well, technically it slopes to 0m, but 1.3m is as far as I got. Dammit.
• Quiet and desolate spot my bahooki. Fishing boats were working the loch until 10pm and from 7am. The big yacht moored there was twice visited by a speedboat. Traffic on the Dunoon road screams its way down one side and up the other all the bleeding time. For traffic noise alone my mooring at Port Bannatyne is a damn sight quieter.

TL;DR: Nice enough for a sail up and back, but not somewhere I'd overnight again.

Maybe that's why we should leave it to Measrk, Clydeport and the local residents to resolve as it always looks a bit dreich when you're passing. Possibly the one place in the lovely Clyde estuary that isn't worth the bother?
