Documents question

Should I take the original registration document for a trip to Orkney? I have told everyone to make sure they have their passports but I am not sure about the boat. Will the UKBA harass us, or conversely will the Leith Police dismiss us as an undocumented or at least underdocumented vessel, when we eventually return to the FoF?

I'd make sure I had sufficient documentation to prove I had come from- and was entitled to return to- a normal society..

You can read into that what you like

If you have red diesel on board, what will they think of that? Is it allowed there?
What ensign will your boat wear on arrival?

.
No-one ever asked us for anything in Orkney. Very laid back place.

Why would you need it? Not everyone has a boat that is registered.

Sound thinking

If you have any Icelandic Bank statements they might be handy. Other documentation that might be useful - a Senior Railcard, ration book, Red Driving Licence and a Robertsons Golly certificate of club membership.

I have all of the above and find that I am never challenged, wherever I roam. Last week I was in Thornton Cleveleys for example.
The anchor question is a bird of a different hue and I think it unfair to tag it in here. I think it is deserving of a thread in its own right.

Gosh, that's a relief. I don't have any Icelandic Bank statements, I'm glad to say but I do have some of those other things somewhere. I don't have the Robertson's racist certificate but I could take my bus pass. Adequate proof of senility, surely?

Now that brings back memories. I'm sure I have the full band somewhere.

A bus pass will carry little authority as there are buses on Orkney.

Now a train pass - well that carries real aspirational clout

There was a narrow gauge railway on Orkney until quite recently. I believe the owner got into a spat with the local council and took his toys away.
