Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Although the longest day is June 21st, the latest sunset in the northern hemisphere is about a week later.
Look up analemma.

Fascinating
BUT
when I posted it was almost dark

The evening before was still quite light at the same time.

Anyway - it has nothing to with anything apart from my childish need to get a nights are drawing in/ nights are getting lighter post in before the other children.

I'm surprised the sun makes a difference to you! here in deepeat englandshire the gloom from the overcast sky only varies marginally over a 24 hour period!

I tried a google search on "analemma". My wife is now seeing lawyers. Thanks a heap.

On the upside, Emma looks very friendly and remarkably accommodating.

It saddens me when a man, who most certainly should know better, misuses the language so badly. How can anyone accept his opinions on any matter, even the setting of the sun, after such a display?

Write out 500 times -
"A writer or speaker implies something; the reader or listener may infer something from those words."

NO 4. to hint, to imply to suggest.

I think he got it right.

I regret that quoting a dubious internet source from an ex-colony that has managed to boldly* mangle the English language, grammar and spelling does not prove anything. Claymore is of an age and education where he should know the difference and I expect is abjectly ashamed of his error.

*deliberate!

Oh dear - sorry
I am writing to Mr Gove to ask if he could nullify my O level English and put me in for a resit once they come out again.

Apart from that I were furst to mention the drawing in of the nights

I stand corrected. It would seem it's a common mistake and myself and Claymore have made it.
From the Oxford English

"There is a distinction in meaning between infer and imply. In the sentence the speaker implied that the General had been a traitor, implied means that the speaker subtly suggested that this man was a traitor (though nothing so explicit was actually stated). However, in we inferred from his words that the General had been a traitor, inferred means that something in the speaker’s words enabled the listeners to deduce that the man was a traitor. The two words infer and imply can describe the same event, but from different angles. Use of infer to mean imply, as in are you inferring that I’m a liar? (instead of are you implying that I’m a liar?), is an extremely common error."

You learn something every day
