BLUEMOMENT

We had dinner at Scotts last night, Thursday. We turned up at 20.00hrs without a booking, and found it full but the promise of a table (for 2) in 30mins. we went for a walk and table was ready on our return.

The whole experience was good, the Cullen Skink was tasty but they managed to have the inside of the potatoes soft but the outer 5mm hard, not sure how - microwave maybe. The Fish & Chips and Lasagne were both excellent and big portions and good value at £10.95. The wine prices seemed to rise fairly steeply - we just had a glass each as we wanted different colours.

We splashed out on breakfast this morning, again excellent, big portions, and good value. Good coffee too. We were relatively late, 10am, and the place was busy - morning coffee and cakes being ordered.

Looked to be busy, both last night and this morning with non-marina customers. Service was great on both occasions.

We've had lunch at Scotts at Troon but I can't remember it, but would certainly recommend Largs - but book - even mid week.

OK, so I have only spent a couple of years working in Scotland, and may be a little less than fully familiar with Caledonian cuisine, but I thought that Cullen Skink was made with mashed rather than unmashed spuddies ?

Or do real men only drink soup with lumps in it ?

We haven't managed to get up there since that opened, but assumed it would be like the rest of the chain (inc. Troon)

Any news of the other nosh-joint on site-the one in the conservatory -Bosun's locker? it sank under mysterious circumstances and was worth a visit.

Never heard of it made with mashed but when I make it some of my family like to roughly mash them in the bowl.

I take it all you sullen kinky fans have tried the Ship Inn in Irvine, got to be the best around, and I try it everywhere it's on the menu.

Going back to the original topic , I am just back from Scotts and enjoyed the experience. We only had drinks, but the draught Hobgoblin was OK and the place had a good atmosphere.
I will certainly go back on another occasion.

Which came first the weather or the train?

Scotland, probably the train, but it could have been close.

From what I can remember, the Train came on a wednesday but the weather took till Thursday

I thought the weather was always keech until Monday morning when you were travelling up the coast early to work.
Then you had bright calm weather until friday....
