Notice to Mariners: Port of Port Ellen, Islay - Reconstruction of the Ferry Terminal pier 22 March 2011

Mariners are advised that Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) has contracted McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd to undertake pier reconstruction works at Port Ellen Ferry Terminal, Isle of Islay.
The reconstruction works will commence on Friday 25th March 2011 and are programmed to be complete by 31st December 2011. The works consist will consist of sheet piling around the existing structure including the linkspan which will be repositioned as part of the planned works. There will also be some dredging/excavation, which will be further promulgated by Notice to Mariners in due course once timeframes are confirmed. The vessels used for reconstruction and dredging will be appropriately marked and lit at all times under international regulations.
The main pier will be closed to all vessels for the duration of the works, although berthing has been arranged for the grain vessel.
The fish quays will remain open for the duration of the works and safe navigational passage will be maintained at all times for all commercial and recreational users of the inner harbour at Port Ellen.

Port Ellen Distillery has, sadly, been "silent" since 1983.Arghiro wrote:So no access to the distillery any more?
The Port Ellen Maltings serves some (most?) of the other, active, Islay distilleries, though, hence the mention of keeping some provision for dealing with the grain boat.
