Just picked up YM and "High Seas and Mountains" blew my mind.

Superb article, incredible images.

Well worth a browse next time you're waiting for the missus in Tescos! :-)

Yes. When not up north his boat is usually to be seen around Lochs Linnhe and Creran. If I remember correctly he and crew had a very lucky escape when his previous boat caught fire and was burnt out in Greenland.

That rings a bell.
IIRC it was an early Westerly 31 or 33, and he set it alight when filling the tank for the Taylors heater.
The filler was through-deck and he left the stove alight, over-filled the tank and poured diesel over the burning heater..

Yes, it's a Discuss 33 from the early 80's. According to Paul Gelder it did burn down to the waterline. So that all fits.

It's good to know diesel is safer than gas then. :?

I've just been reading Tom Cunnliffe's "Topsail & Battleaxe". Sailing Hirta (Pilot Cutter) from Brighton to Norway, Iceland & Labrador. The first thing they did on leaving was rip the clew out of the jib & set fire to the boat! The solid fuel stove was left burning, well fueled & draught door open on heading out of the marina into a strong breeze. The extra draught got the chimney so hot, it ignited the woodwork around it! At least a few buckets of sea water dealt with that problem safely.

I thought it was Steve who had the hurty leg, or have you got one too?

I hope it's not catching, I don't want one. :(

Seems to be spreading. Cyberhurtylegitis. Knackered left knee, now sore right ankle . . .

I was supposed to be on a YMI training and assessment course out of Largs last night, now on hold until October

You should at least be able to get all the hurty bits on the same side, simple logistics innit? Is it that Dim Tartlett that has been abusing you?
