Has anybody got an anchor and chain suitable in size for a 26 ft yacht that they don't need? Must be cheap/free
I just discovered that my spare chain was rusted solid - it wouldn't even bend!

Bash the chain with a hammer & then take it to be re-galvanised. needs to be tumble galvanised to stop it ending up as a solid lump again.
Saw thro the shackle to the anchor & reconnect the lovely new chain with a nice new shackle. You could even paint the anchor too, but if it looks too nice, it will probably get nicked.

I'm afraid it was too far gone - it was really quite crumbly.

I have a choice of Danforth anchors in my garage, off a 26' Centaur as it happens, both the same size. No chain I'm afraid.
You can have one.

Thank you - I have a Danforth and the problem with it is that the cross piece makes it too wide for my locker.
Does anybody know if shortening the cross piece(the solid rod) would impair it's performance significantly?
The requirement for chain is more important than the anchor itself.
Bob - could you measure the width of yours and let me know please?
Thanks.

Just had a look, the solid rod looks to have a hole in it so it could be tube, thick walled though. Both 21¼" to 21½" depending how I measure it. No weight markings on them anywhere.

I have a 15lb (?) traditional fishermans' with folding cross-piece you can have, might do as a kedge, or on rocks, but I'm in the Midlands (M6 Jcn14). It was my kedge on my first boat (W "%) & I have just replaced it with a bigger Danforth as the kedge on my current W Pentland.

Thank you both for your kind offers - but I have a Danfoth and a Fisherrman. The problem I have is a very shallow anchor locker and I was hoping to find something to fit that. What I usuallly do when anchoring is get the Danforth from the aft locker, carry it to the foredeck and then fasten it to the chain and I was thinking to avoid that step.
So all I really need is a few metres(yards would do

) of 8mm chain.
Of course the real reason that I am reejecting Steve's Fisherman is because it will not be the Rolls Royce quality that I seek

This is true. It is about 25/30 years old & wasn't even gold plated. That is why I was prepared to let you have it gratis. The price has just gone up now by at least one insult.
