I am underwhelmed by the response . . .

.
Everyone was sent an email informing them of the new YotBlog. There are currently 145 registered users with blogs on yotblog.co.uk and only five have responded. (Well 4 actually, we can't count Claymore). I will be closing the old site down at some point this year and it seems a shame that so many great tales will be lost.

If there are any that you think should be preserved in spite of their owners' apathy then suggest them and I will see what I can do, time permitting. I am not going to leave the old site up indefinitley though as it may be or could becomce a security risk.

Forgive the dumb question but can't you back the lot up to a dvd or somesuch and keep it?

Could be of great interest. If not now then in the future.

In fact it's a dumber question than I originally thought since I can't be arsed to do it myself, so why should you....

The blogs are contained in a database and the software that runs the database is no longer under development, is buggy and is not very secure. The only practical way to migrate a blog from that system to Wordpress is by copying and pasting individual blog entries. If the original owners of the blogs can't be arsed then I'm afraid I certainly can't unless I am convinced that the content is of exceptional merit.

This is one of the main problems with any CMS or database-managed website. A 'static' site such as our ZNOY8 blog has the huge advantage that it can just be copied onto a DVD, USB drive or whatever and it will display exactly the same from the alternative location. All content managed websites suffer from this problem, and of course content managment systems also impose design and structure limitations - but they are a lot easier for non-techies to keep updated themselves.

I know I was born in the 1940s and that my sell-by date fast approaches
I know the runway lights are on and I shall be landing at the retirement terminal within months

BUT

I have no idea what you are talking about when you go off into this techno-babble.

Fondest aye
