.
The 'Scots don't want it' argument is a load of rubbish in my experience - most of us hate the dark Winter afternoons and would prefer some extra light at the end of the day. The schoolkids getting run over argument is just moronic - most of them are driven to school now anyway and I can't see the difference between being run over in the morning and run over in the afternoon. Mornings suck anyway, so more light in the evenings has to be a good thing.
We don't need double summertime, we just need to keep normal summertime throughout the year instead of taking that horrific plunge into darkness every October when the clocks go forward.

So even if we change the clocks we'd still need scratch around to find another way to annoy Scotland? Taxes on Porridge and Iron Brew? Send the Proclaimers to Guantanamo Bay?

Agree, double Summertime is a red herring, BST 12 months a year is the answer.

I think all this "summertime", and changing the clocks is a load of $h1te.
Let's stick to GMT throughout the year I say! The Sun rises and sets when it rises and sets, giving the same number of hours of daylight despite what it says on the clock!
I ALWAYS have the ship's clock on Rowana set to GMT, so I've no need for any mental gymnastics when working out tidal streams, or whether I'll have enough water to get in to some port or other. What it says in the Almanac is the same as what it says on the clock!
Time is time, and shouldn't be fecked about with!
So there!

Would it be ok to stick to GMT but then adjust standard working hours to maximise evening light? I'd be happy with that. I don't care how the adjustment is made - I just want more usable time in the evening.

I start work 40 mins before most folk at our place so I get a longer evening.
Setting off early means I get to work in <10 mins instead of >15 mins.
Leaving early means I get home in <15 mins instead of >20, overall starting and finishing a bit early gives me about an hour a day extra me time.
I'm on BMT I suppose.

Come on, Mark, you're not in TOP. We all know this isn't what you really think about Scotland.

Got to agree. But its all a lot of nonsense anyway. Why should Scotland and England be on the same time anyway? It used to be the case that even cities like London and Bristol were on different times let alone places as far apart as Torquay and Dundee.
And what makes this loudmouth think that "Plunging Dundee into darkness to boost tourism in Torquay is simply not acceptable". To whom is it not acceptable?

'Course, I'm joking. I'm a massive fan of Scotland and the Scots people.
The

was intended to be a clue.
