Racing Improves the Breed - Part III - The End?

Ho hum - well, I tried. I'm a tad underwhelmed by your enthusiasm for pitting your sailing skills, together with your prides and joy, against the inferior abilities and tubs of the other denizens of these fora. I am sure that each and every one of you gets pleasure in outsailing total strangers up the Kyles of Bute and/or the Sound of Mull or are at least able to generate totally valid excuses for being left behind. But I don't seem to have sparked many of you to join in when the other boats actually know who you are.

The response to my offer of competitive sailing seems to be a massive 4 in favour of Oban (with Nick changing the date to 4/5th September) and 1 (other than me) in favour of the Clyde. My choice of 11/12th September for Oban was purely selfish based on the assumption that I was going to be transiting the Caledonian Canal by 19th September (when my book of free tickets runs out) so the weekend before while heading north made sense. An offer of a free mooring for a week might encourage me!

Basically, it doesn't seem worth the effort for only 4 of you, and apart from Nick I don't know who the others are. If you feel strongly, please PM me to beg me to continue, otherwise, I regret, that it ain't going to happen. I will be at WHYW so if you are there gie's a shout and if you're in Class 7, may the best boat win.

Shame indeed - my sailing skills alone would have made everyone else feel much better about themselves. Just ask Mara. Well, if we pass you around the west coast this year we'll be sure to try and keep pace. If it's upwind, you've got us beat. If it's downwind, as long as there's several miles of clear water then we should be able to get the spinnaker up eventually and put in a less shameful showing. And if life does sneak back into your race campaign, we're still up for the original Oban date. Or any other.

Definitely see you around WHYW for the first weekend, we might be breaking off and heading for Skye after the Monday. The generation one up from me fancy the Round Raasay race on the 7th, and the old fella's boat isn't in the water yet. Not sure how we'll get back, what with holiday limitations, but that's a problem for another day....

Is anyone doing the Round Mull? We could campaign for a special cCC class for that.....

Aye, Mara did mention something about spinnakers after the MoK a couple of weeks ago.

I should be on the Round Mull, complete with my dancing shoes for Bunessan. One year I am going to beat Scintilla - so if you could distract them for me .........

Here's me rushing to make a goosewing jibstick for the downwind leg, all to no avail.
Ah, well, SWMBO probably wouldn't have wanted to stow the glassware anyway.
