Hi - No disrespect intended to those who answered the previous thread but I thought that I should start a more focused thread.

It would appear that DaveS, LBB, Silkie, Wight Dawn could make the 29th tho' Sahona can't - possible venue being the Bon Accord.

Madam Ash and I would intend putting in an appearance.

Do we need to contact the S/Butters? Think most post here too but I might need to drop C_W a PM.

NickB and Garredfox could make a weekend of it and check out the car auction.

What is the consensus? Is it a goer?

I believe that you went to the December drink in The Edward Wylie - how bad was the beer / service?

You've previously spoken about Sloans - any good? We could always Ceilidh......

Any other suggestions? Within easy walking distance of Central Station?

The service in the Edward Wylie was pretty awful, but is was office party time and the place was mobbed. The best thing about it is the beer prices and to my un-tutored tastes there seemed to be a good range on offer. It is a large drinking lounge however.

I asked about Sloans because I arranged a good union social meeting there but that was in 1991! I have no idea what it is like now. It was good for my purposes as they could provide a reasonable private area and a finger buffet. Coincidentally, the funeral of the General Secretary that was in charge at the time was yesterday.

Fully intend to be there, wherever there should turn out to be, and will probably doss down in sunny Largs so Central station for me. I'm happy to go along with the majority on the venue. The BA is a good boozer but small, EW is huge so probably no problem getting a suitable seating area, haven't been in Sloans for more than a decade, the Horseshoe is another Glasgow institution and a great pub but always busy.

So have we a definitive venue yet? I confess that my preference would be Teddy Willy as it is:

a) Cheap
b) Central for folk travelling by train
c) Easy car parking for those of us who have a driver
d) Cheap
e) Loads of room
f) Did I mention cheap?

I know that the Bon Accord do better beer, and I do like good beer, but it is quite a way from Central.

Celtic Connections still running on the 29th. Only X connection would be Oran Mor, which has been mentioned at some point.

As time is fast running out, I would vote for the Edward Wylie too.

I'm easy (but you probably knew that), somewhere that's not too hard to find if we have to come from home as opposed to coming via our BnB with a guide works best for us. Parking will be good to as I'll probably drive no matter where we set out from.

The Wily Eddy is fine by me too.

I see they have free wifi. If someone brings a laptop we could post live drunken gibberish in the soon-to-be time-honoured manner.

Well, if a'body else wants Eddie's Willy, then OK with me. It is undoubtably cheaper and the service will probably be better than in the pre-Xmas scrum. Any dissent?

Oh, and an agreed starting time would be useful. Say 1900ish? (Seemed to work in December.)

As there is currently a £15 return offer on the train myself and garredfox might consider coming down if we had a doss for the night.
