I have no idea what it was like where you were but the Forth had a lovely sunny day, a bit light on wind in the morning but the breeze came away nicely in the afternoon. It was so nice that when the racing stopped (just 23 yachts out and 7 dinghies) a lot of boats continued to sail rather than go back into what Edinburgh Leisure claim is a marina. I think I even have a wee bit of sunburn.

Another sunny day on the Forth! 26 yachts this week but only 3 Lasers going round the cans. Wind was variable but apart from one gust that caused a wee spinnaker broach (in a CO32!) never reached the forecast. Not too chilly and the rain stayed off till I was driving home.

It was a bit dark in the shed but I did manage to get the bolts out of the propshaft coupling.

You're spoiling that boat! Careful she disnae dry out too much in her luxury accommodation - she'll leak like a sieve next August when you get round to putting her back in the water.

Attended my climbing club dinner in Borrowdale on saturday evening
It rained. Very Hard.
And Blew.

The Lake Warden rang us 12:00 Sunday to say the back up mooring strop had broken.

We went up, sorted the strop, had a picnick lunch and came home. It was cold and windy and dark by the time we left. A bit poo really.

How do you attach your back-up mooring strop and, if it is a back-up, why did it break?

I have a back-up strop shackled to my riser, but at the moment it is just floating about with a fender on the end because:

a) We only have one foredeck cleat, which is pretty full with the main strop eye

b) I worry that the two strops will tangle and chafe if both are attached.

(The current plan is to only attach the back-up strop when winds >F10 are forecast - but of course I have to have advance warning to get out to the boat)

Ah well it's like this......

The rope strop seems to be hard as nails, it's showing signs of wear but it's just gone a lighter colour and a bit fluffy round the edges. It's about ½ the size of professionally made up strops that reputedly last a season or two but it's a different sort of laid rope.

So to be sure I had a chain backup just on the SL gypsy, not under tension but there just incase. The shackle holding the chain to the riser has lost it's pin, so it's not broken really, just a slack skipper didn't mouse it. Not short of cleats, it's a right hotch potch on Chiron's foredeck

I feel another photo opportunity coming on, foredeck when on the mooring.

Must take monel with me next time I go, I hope I gave the new shackles enough welly to last till I get back.
