I first read 'Sea Change' about 5 years ago and have always been bemused by the catalogue of errors during the cruise including 'unchartered rocks', careenings and other disasters. What has always really confused me is the following passage:

"I thought of the big yachts at Isle Ornsay slumbering by now on programmed computered anchors that of their own accord activate the engine to face the boat into the variability of any wind direction, captains and crews in the arms of Morpheus, their bellies quietly burping langoustine, caviar and cream juices in time to the soft thrum of generators."

Apart from the (perceived, on my part) fact that she is extremely well-balanced with a chip on each shoulder (and I shouldn't knock her too much as I have enjoyed her books and all my children love her stories), what the feck is she going on about?

Is this a Rocna rival? And how does one link one's computer to an anchor? I wondered if I could do something with my old 48k Spectrum and a CQR. A speqr? A Ceqtrum? I think this could add a whole new dimension to the anchor debate.

I read it a while back. I thought the 'saving' the kids swimming anecdote was a bit of a tall story.

How narrow minded of you - and Shuggy, I expected more of you. This is the woman's perception of us and just think - if she'd actually researched the issue and found out that none of what she had written happens, it would have completely bolloxed the story.

Come on Lads, a bit more of an open mind on this. The Herdwick is a lakeland sheep - a pretty-faced lakeland sheep at that.

I don't know but I don't fancy yours much!

Its in the legs really - built for different terrain and climate. The Herdwick is a lakeland fell sheep so developed strong legs to get it up and down the mountains and woolly ears to keep out the cold.The Hebridean is altogether a more delicate and some might say relatively petite breed - more suited to the balmy sun-kissed conditions it is more likely to experience.

There's a touch of the Herdwicks in Parahandy....

Well my granddaughter loves her Katie Morag books and I won't have a word said against The Lady Artist. I think Sea Change is a different sort of book from, say the CCC Ardnamurchan to Cape Wrath and there are more sheep in Katie Morag and the Two Grandmothers than in this thread so far.
