Hi All,
I,m new to the forum though I,ve been "lurking" for a few months and have been enjoying the "craik"..etc.
I have almost completed my self built and designed 21 foot yawl (technically a ketch) and am about to try to get it insured..Can anyone recommend a sympathetic insurance company and also a reasonably local (to Aberdeen) yacht surveyor....

Umm, nope. But you sound a handy sort of person to have on the forum. Welcome, and have some fun:

You'd be surprised at how far a surveyor will travel!
Jim Mcilraith (Survey One) is who I would always choose, based on his clear forthright opinions, experience (built his own boats, has restored many wooded ones & is respected by all the major insurance companies) and reputation. He'll tell you everything that you don't want to hear but usually recommend a fix and not just leave you with a problem.
If not Jim, then Maitland Murray, Jim Abernethy or Ian Nicholson would be on the list. All well known and respected on the west coast for yachts and pleasure craft.
Not sure who is available on the Moray Coast or round to the East where you are as it is more likely to that you'll find experience of trawlers and supply vessels and their ilk. A call to one of the yacht clubs (Findhorn or Lossiemouth) might help or the the Findhorn boatyard. They'll tell you who comes in to assess their clients boats or survey/assess their work.

I would second Jim McIllwraith as it was he who checked my boat when I had the Hull problem and supplied a comprehensive repair procedure statement.
He will travel quite a bit to survey.
I am sure it is he that is taking to do with the 'Lovely Lady of Leith' which ran aground in Anstruther a few wks ago and is now at North Berwick.

Well I launched her last month at Findhorn and she actually floated.!! and heres the proof......I hope.

You will keep us updated on how well she sails, but looking at her lines I would think she will do OK.

My galley slave wants to look at the galley to see if it's OK, it's where her priorities lie, to the detriment of my waistline.

Many thanks for the compliments folks.I sweated long and hard on the drawing board and still wasnt sure how it would look in the flesh..phew!!
Aquaplane....dont think your galley slave would be too impressed...very tricky petrol driven 2-burner cooker and plastic basin from Asda,though I intend to upgraded to gas cooker next season.

Puddock....She is sitting on her trailer right outside my front door (Potlethen) but I,ll be back up to Findhorn next weekend
