Seems a good idea

Here's Olive:

We sailed north through the Firth of Lorne today while about 9 million yachts got under the feet of the Isle of Mull coming out of Oban Bay (was it the start of the Classic malts?). A few were emerging from Dunstaffnage about the same time. How hard did I pray that Silkie or another intrepid photographer would be doing justice to Blue Shift's fine form on a broad reach in F3/4? Not hard enough, obviously.
Jane did once embark in a dinghy on a long painter to get a decent vantage on a Norfolk wherry on the broads, but that was several decades ago and it wasn't our wherry. I have it on good authority that she won't be doing that again. I can't think why not. We can do you an anchored vision of loveliness, but so passee I feel (how do I get an acute on the first e?).
Friday we depart for southern waters (well the Isle of Man anyway); perhaps our pic will appear in Mr Shmoo's (sp?) anthology. I'm hoping so.

ps Just saw Olive; we let go before putting the sails up as a rule. Have we got it wrong? Lovely shade of tan in the sails though.

At anchor will do at a pinch. After all, Olive seems to be moored alongside under all plain sail FFS.

I wanted a picture with the sails up. But thats difficult to do when you're sailing the boat, particularly since SWMBO has forbidden my walking on the water.

She says its showing off.

So thats the best you're going to get.

Of course, there was a time when hoisting sail at a mooring and sailing away was quite the normal thing to do, and would not have attracted any comment.

I am dead reckless sometimes and sail on and off jetties, but only when the wind is right. You should see the folk in the 30' floating gleaming caravans rush out to "help", or should I say fend off. My little ship is only a dingy with a lid on, it don't take any stopping.

As with all sailors, it's hard to get an action pic of your pride and joy.

Depends what you mean.

The pixel count can be reduced by PhotoBucket during the upload process to whatever size you have specified in the profile.

If you want to crop the shot to give more of a close up, then use the Rectangular Marqee Tool in Editor in Adobe Photoshop Elements ( or similar). If you want the cropped image to have a certain pixel count (say 800 by 600) then open a new blank with the required resolution, set the Marqee Tool for the same aspect ratio, draw out your rectangle, adjust position using arrow keys, then use copy and paste to get the cropped image on the blank and stretch the image as required to fill the blank.

My apologies if I'm trying to teach granny, etc.

Most of the origionals are 2048 x 1536 pixels and about 1.2 Meg, with some slightly smaller due to using digital as well as optical zoom when taking the shot. I can email any required.

I only have one photo of Mistral under sail. It's fairly old now, and had to be doctored using Photoshop to get rid of the fender which accidentally was dangling over the side (very grotty yotty). It's used as my avatar.

Like others, I've considered leaving SWMBO in the dinghy but she won't consider it.

I've got lots of shots of other's boats.

I'll have to persuade Aquaplane to revisit LL, and hope that we have more wind next time.

If I can be excused from handing in my homework, then I'll try to get a photo in the next couple of weeks.

Not my favorite, but very significant. This is Mistral entering the water for the first time under my ownership.

Actually, I sincerely think she is a stunner. Mind you with that backdrop Anne Widecombe would look good.

BigWow at last lift out, non with sails up I'm afraid, usually too busy.

The dates wrong. It doesn't usually look like that in June, let alone January
