The warring factions in the Synod are selectively chosing particular passages from the bible to support their case. One particularly nasty example of this occurred 250yrs ago when the Dutch settlers, including the Huguenots escaping protestant suppression in Europe, took off into the South African hinterland from the Dutch East Indies settlement in the Cape. Their religion was the teachings of Calvin which had a passage in their bible which had the white man inheriting the earth and which was used then and since to justify their actions. Calvin, of course, had never seen a black man in 16th century Holland.

Its an odd world. I read somewhere that the EU will eventually fail because they have no belief or ideals holding the federation of states together other than mutual economic gain; whereas the federation of USA states has survived because it does have a common religious belief which is the glue holding it together.

It would be helpful if the C of E would concentrate on that which matters?
