How to cover up really stupid mistakes while sailing.

Use reversible dodgers. Screw up? No problem, just turn over your reversible dodgers with another boat's name on one side.

I've seen this theory propounded elsewhere, I think.
The main problem, as far as I can see, is the need to be sufficiently smart to anticipate one's own stupidity. On leaving Loch Teacuis will one always remember to show the Airwig dodgers?

I have 'Shard' written on the reverse side of my dodgers for just that purpose...
Spent a couple of nights in Fahan marina early April prior to moving to Fanny's Bay. Exited on a falling tide and went outside the first sailing club red can in the channel and promptly ran aground. It had been moved over 100 yards in the winter gales and was now on the other side of the channel. Lifted off the sand 4 and a half hours later after all the evening walkers on the beach had stoppd to look. Had to go back in the marina and try again next day.
