It is the 10th Hebridean Festival of Sail this 14th - 19th July, in Stornoway. We went to the 5th one and it was excellent. We are hoping to get to this year's as well - anyone else fancy it?

The HFoS is on for five days. That leaves 11 days out of a standard two week (ie 16 days 'cos there are 3 weekends) Summer holiday to get to Stornoway and back, or 12 days if you plan to arrive for the main events Weds-Sat.

That's six days there and six days back. It can be done very comfortably in 4. The first time we went we did Seil-Tobermory, Tobermory-Canna, Canna-Scalpay and Scalpay-Stornoway. Nothing very epic there.

Surely even wee Silkie doesn't need six weeks to get to Stornoway and back? We went round Ireland in less.

Yer haverin' man . . .

Just meaning that those with a more typical employment pattern would need to plan this as part of the main summer cruise and much as I might like to go it's already too late for this year. Also not sure what I'd get for my 40 beer vouchers.

Maybe. I want to be in the Outer Hebrides this summer, and might manage to include this, at least for a day or two. I've an awkwardly timed meeting in London, however, that's making planning for July difficult.

I'd love to be there - that, unfortunately is the exact time when I shall be trundling over to Denmark with a transit full of the Daughter's furniture.
