Help!

I'm helping to compile a list of suitable slipways for the Trail Sail Association. Members are sending me info about slipways they have used for me to make an entry on our Google Group. If you want to look you have to join I'm afraid.

Anyway, someone likes Craobh but can't remember if there is petrol there or anywhere near. The Craobh site advertises diesel but TSA folk generally have outboards, is there any petrol near?

Same for Dunstaffnage?

not sure about croabh but i can advise you that there is no petrol at ardfern. so far as i am aware the nearest petrol to ardfern is at lochgilphead. i think lochgilphead is further from ardfern than croabh so maybe that answers the question.

it may be worth noting that there are now community petrol and diesel pumps on some of the islands -
jura, craighouse - near the jetty - pay at the hotel
colonsay, scalasaig - opposite the shop - pay in shop
possibly also gigha.
you have to pay cash ( cc`s not accepted ) and the price last summer was about 20ppl dearer than mainland.

i should add that was for petrol.
the diesel of course was full price road diesel although the distinction will disappear shortly.

Dunstaffnage doesn't have petrol, but there is an Esso garage about a mile from the marina towards Oban.

No petrol at Dunstaffnage AFAIK but there is a garage about a mile (probably a bit less) along the road towards Oban. Don't know about Craobh, though DaveS would but I suspect he's off on another of his endless foreign holidays at the moment.

I'll add that snippet to the Dunstaffnage page and mention Lochgilphead for Croabh too.

I only carry 20 litres full so don't worry too much about trailing dry. It's good policy to fuel when you get there though, both on a safety and weight point of view. I'm new to this trailing caper.

I've proposed linking into bluemoments from the slipway pages on the West Coast and Clyde, I found bluemoments searching for moorings, I found this page.

We are coming to Largs 24th May for 2 weeks so keep an eye out for litle blue/green pennants.

Cheeky sod! I'm just back from a week WORKING in Orkney. (The week before that I was, admittedly, on the piste in Switzerland... )

Craobh definitely doesn't have petrol and it is really too far to walk to either Lochgilphead or Oban. There is a bus service of sorts, but busses tend not to like petrol being carried on board...

The folks wanting a petrol station close to the launch site will have a car, sorry I didn't make it plain.

A TSA member with far more experience than me said that an ideal launch site would have fuel within a short distance.

It's never been a consideration for me because I usually fill my petrol cans when I fill the car up before I set off from home.

I can see his point though, to fill up at launch or shortly after there is less weight to trail, and petrol isn't the safest stuff if there is an accident.

Nowt wrong with filling up at Lochgilphead on the way through though, if you know it's the last chance.

The chap is Colin Haines, he writes for PBO on trail sailing from time to time. I was dead impressed when I was reading an article in PBO and I realised it was the bloke I'd been coresponding with. I know, easy impressed me.
