Submersible bilge pumps.... I have at present, one handraulic pump and one very ill diaphram pump, deep narrow bilge. Option is to replace the diaphram with a submersible 'Rule' pump. Submerging an electric motor doesn't make sense in my economy sized brain, so are there any 'for and agin' opinions?
Reason for considering the change? Small local swindlery capsized and selling off last of stock at 1990 prices..

They work well if you get one that's man enough to deal with the head of water. The submersible bit is how they keep cool. so if you get one don't run it "slurping " for long periods. I use a car interior light relay to give a wee delay to stop cycling as the pipe empties back. If you use an automatic switch, it's a good idea to put a bleeper in parallel with the pump to create a bilge alarm. That way you get early warning if there's a major catastrophe.

Thanks for that, the sales blurb says a 2 metre 'head' for the discharge outlet, so that's about right for my boat.
