The Met Office App comes out the worst. The comparison is really about weather, specifically rain, and not marine forecasting. However, one would expect the Met Office to be more accurate.

Meteorologist Rosie Mammatt compared the forecasts of BBC Weather, the Met Office, AccuWeather, Apple Weather and The Weather Channel with the actual weather in two locations over a two-week period.

She found the BBC was, overall, the worst at accurately predicting the weather. Each service received a minus point every time the wrong symbol (a sun or rain cloud, for example) was assigned and for every degree the predicted temperature was out.

BBC Weather was especially poor at predicting the forecast for later the same day and overestimated the amount of rain due.

The most accurate app was The Weather Channel. …
More analysis is planned, hopefully with a greater insight than if the correct icon was shown.

the benefit of Windy and Predict wind is that you can compare the forecasts of the different models (sources) that they use.

If all the same, you can have more confidence. If they are inconsistent, plan based on the worst and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!

I get the impression that the BBC are encouraged to err on the side "bad" side, so that they can't be accused of encouraging people to venture into the great outdoors and then getting caught in severe conditions
