Are we just too conservative to be able to see the wood for the trees?
Geant.

Couldn't find any similar footage of Joyon but he must have coped with a lot worse and at an average speed of 19 knots for 26,000 miles.

J.H.C. how does that stay in one piece - and as for the crew.... how do you switch it off when you get fed up?
Incredible

.
At times it looks as though the entire boat is out of the water, just the centreboard immersed.
Incredible to think he rode that thing on his own non-stop for over eight weeks . . .
How long do you think this record will stand? It is hard to see how it can be beaten.

Awesome...
I'd love to have a go.... but only for a few hours....

It may be a few years away then . . .

You may have to wait a while before the record can be broken by going for a day sail

Despite the name, the Open 60 Geant is just a tiddler compared to Idec's 97' LOA.
Is it the way forward though? Leaving aside the practicalities of getting into a marina (or through Easdale Sound) it would appear that great advances have been made in multihull design. I've been reading about foil assist (didn't understand a word) and believe it makes them much more stable, reducing the chances of pitch-poling etc. Hydroptere being the ultimate foiler at the moment.
I was highly impressed when I sailed in company with Jim and his F27 in
2006 but consoled myself in the time honoured manner.
Would you have one?
PS - I wouldn't be surprised if the wee dame has a crack at taking it back.

that`s not a boat - it must be a " w i g".
he`s got the record for FLYING round the world 4 feet above the surface.

Weather float is well dug in if you look carefully.

Not sure I follow your analogy LBB but that's probably because I still don't know what a WIG is.

What is a wig?
Wing in ground effect - essentially an aircraft that only flies in ground effect

A touch racy for the Chentlemen's Cruise. Makes quite a contrast with your 7 knots in a Hurley 22 clip.
