Shock of the new (boaty verion)
Are we just too conservative to be able to see the wood for the trees?
Geant.

Couldn't find any similar footage of Joyon but he must have coped with a lot worse and at an average speed of 19 knots for 26,000 miles.

J.H.C. how does that stay in one piece - and as for the crew.... how do you switch it off when you get fed up?

Incredible
.
At times it looks as though the entire boat is out of the water, just the centreboard immersed.
Incredible to think he rode that thing on his own non-stop for over eight weeks . . .
How long do you think this record will stand? It is hard to see how it can be beaten.

Despite the name, the Open 60 Geant is just a tiddler compared to Idec's 97' LOA.

Is it the way forward though? Leaving aside the practicalities of getting into a marina (or through Easdale Sound) it would appear that great advances have been made in multihull design. I've been reading about foil assist (didn't understand a word) and believe it makes them much more stable, reducing the chances of pitch-poling etc. Hydroptere being the ultimate foiler at the moment.
I was highly impressed when I sailed in company with Jim and his F27 in 2006 but consoled myself in the time honoured manner.
Would you have one?
PS - I wouldn't be surprised if the wee dame has a crack at taking it back.

A touch racy for the Chentlemen's Cruise. Makes quite a contrast with your 7 knots in a Hurley 22 clip.
